It Started with Roller Derby
Karen was crushing it on the track for the DC Rollergirls when we discovered our marshmallows were crushing it at the team’s fundraising bake sales. What began as a way to help cover travel expenses for the All-Stars quickly became the event’s bestseller. When the season wrapped, loyal customers kept asking where they could get more.

Building a Business
We saw an opportunity and ran with it. Between 2010 and 2015, we established a legitimate operation, featuring a website, commercial kitchen, online sales, and partnerships with boutiques in DC. The validation came when we participated in the Fancy Food Show and earned coverage in USA Today and Zagat. We were officially confectionery professionals.
Life Changes Everything
Then life happened. We started a family and found ourselves moving. First to Austin, then Baltimore. The marshmallow business took a backseat while we focused on what mattered most. The game-changer came when Ryan landed a position as Chief Operating Officer at Typhoon Farma, a commercial hemp operation on Colorado’s Western Slope.
The Perfect Intersection
Suddenly, we had access to something unique: pharmaceutical-grade CBD from a farm Ryan could oversee personally. We realized we could combine our proven confectionery skills with premium CBD and create something the market was missing: extra-strength edibles and complete transparency.
How We Control Quality
Direct Farm Access
Typhoon Farma isn’t just our supplier, it’s Ryan’s workplace. The farm has been growing hemp since 2019, and in 2025, they acquired their own greenhouses to manage germination in-house. Ryan oversees everything from seed sourcing through harvest and processing. The hemp plants grow from June to September, reaching six feet tall before being processed into the 99.99% pure CBD isolate we use in every marshmallow.
The numbers speak for themselves. Typhoon produced 10-15% of Colorado’s hemp crop in 2024 and is projected to handle 20-30% of the crop in 2025. Ryan also represents all Colorado hemp farmers on behalf of the state’s Department of Agriculture, helping to shape industry policy at both the state and national levels. Most recently, he was selected to serve as a member of the US Hemp Roundtable Advisory Committee, further solidifying our role in the industry’s future.
